About Little Saigon 35th Anniversary
- In April 1975, after Saigon fell to the communist regime, waves of Vietnamese refugees escaped the country by boats or land through neighboring countries in Southeast Asia and later in various immigration programs. Many resettled in Orange County and transformed strawberry fields, old industrial buildings or junk yards into the largest Vietnamese commercial area in the United States and outside of Vietnam.
- On July 23, 1987, the City of Westminster passed Resolution No. 58 to recognize Little Saigon area as a commercial area of Vietnamese community in Westminster.
- Around that time, Van Thai Tran, who was a student at UC Irvine and an intern with the Office of State Senator Ed Royce, coordinated with various government agencies and community organizations through the Little Saigon Development Committee to successfully lobby for the designation of the Little Saigon District at the state level. Mr. Van Tran has continuously engaged in the Vietnamese American community in the Little Saigon area and become Garden Grove Vice Mayor, State Assemblyman, Director of Orange County Water District and currently Chief of Staff for the Office of Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do.
- On June 17, 1988, Governor George Deukmejian came to the Asian Mall Village to officially recognize Little Saigon District as a commercial center in Orange county and introduced the directional signs to Little Saigon area from Freeways 405 and 22.
- June 15, 2013, Former Assemblyman Travis Allen, 72nd District, and many elected officials in the area celebrated Little Saigon's 25th birthday.
- Little Saigon today is a bustling commercial area, with more than 5,000 shops owned by Vietnamese immigrants. Real estate prices in the area have increased over ten times as compared to the level in 1975 or many times over the neighboring areas during the same period. Millions of tourists visit Little Saigon yearly.
- Little Saigon is known as the "Spiritual Capital" of the Vietnamese diaspora. This place is home to roughly five hundred thousand Vietnamese descendants and the flagship center of ever-growing influence in economics, politics, culture or education.
- Today, on June 10, 2023, with the support of State Assemblyman Tri Ta, 70th District, Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do, 1st District and Westminster Mayor Charlie Chi Nguyen, many other Vietnamese American elected officials and community organizations, we celebrate the Little Saigon 35th Anniversary at the same historical location at the Asian Garden Mall, Westminster.

Lễ Hội Hoa Đăng Kỷ Niệm 35 Năm Thành Lập Địa Danh Little Saigon nhằm vinh danh thành quả tốt đẹp của cộng đồng tỵ nạn Việt Nam tại Quận Cam qua việc biến đổi một khu vực từ những vườn dâu hoang tàn hay bãi chứa vật phế thải trở thành Thủ đô Tinh thần của người Việt tỵ nạn Cộng sản, một trung tâm hàng đầu về thương mại, văn hoá, âm nhạc, nghệ thuật, giáo dục, xã hội và chính trị của người Việt nam tại hải ngoại trong hơn ba thập niên qua. Đây là một thành quả đáng đem lại niềm hãnh diện cho người Việt Nam tại khắp nơi.

Lễ Hội Hoa Đăng “Little Saigon 35th Anniversary” được sự tham dự của nhiều nghệ sĩ, đoàn văn hóa dân tộc địa phương như Hội Đồng Hương Quan Họ Bắc Ninh đến dọng ca vọng cổ Nam bộ, đượm tình quê hương của đồng bằng sông Cửu Long và sự hợp tác của Câu Lạc Bộ Tình Nghệ Sĩ, quy tụ được nhiều nam thiếu nữ thế hệ thứ ba của cộng đồng Việt nam trong nhiều vũ điệu đặc sắc.
Chương trình Lễ Hội Little Saigon 35 Năm sẽ được phát sóng trực tiếp tại Quận Cam, San Jose, Houston, nhiều đài truyền hình, truyền thanh địa phương và phần lớn các kênh xã hội “youtube”.
Số ghế có giới hạn, xin Quý đồng hương đến tham dự sớm để có chỗ ngồi, thưởng thức một chương trình lễ hội có bề dầy lịch sử, văn hóa và chính trị của cộng đồng chúng ta tại hải ngoại.
